Revolution, a contagious disease for world's nations!

neutr1n02001's picture

The American people successfully completed their revolution in 1780s, with the help from the French. A few years later, French people got the spirit and started their own revolution! Isn't revolution a contagious disease for the world's nations!

In 1989, Chinese people started their revolt at Tienanmen Square. Although it failed with thousands killed, the spirit lived on and passed to the people in East Europe and Russia. And they started their own massive revolts against their communist masters. In a year, Soviet Union and her satellite communist nations were gone. Americans claimed the fall of communism was due to Reagan's cold war policies. Osama bin Laden claimed it's due to his Jihad in Afghanistan. I say it's due to the revolution spirit exported by the Chinese people.

In this modern day and age, this revolution spirit gets exported faster due to modern communication technology. No wonder Mubarak tried to shutdown the Internet and cell phone. It used to take years a few centuries ago, months a few decades ago. Now it only takes weeks! Tunisia revolted a few weeks ago. Now it's Egypt. Which nation is going to get it next?

My first handgun target practice this year

This Saturday I got up earlier than usual so I can drive to the shooting range early. I wanted to do some handgun practice. The streets were quite empty. However, the shooting range was full of people! And I know why! In the past few years, Vancouver has lost two or three shooting ranges closer to the town. The closest one right now is 40 KM away. And this one is in danger as well. The residential housing are being built closer and closer to the range. Eventually, people will start to complain how noisy it is and demand its closure. It won't matter that the range has been there for the past half century. When that day comes, I may start to look for a job in US. I'm getting really serious on my new hobby:-)

China and US, are they playing a non zero-sum game?

Chinese president Hu told the world that China and US are not in a zero-sum game. Obama responded warmly, "We have an enormous stake in each other's success." Really?? How about "We have an enormous stake in each other's failure"?

China and US maybe in a non zero-sum game in the mid 70s of the last century, when Soviet Union and US were in a Cold War. But not now. Right now, US, Japan and South Korea are in a non-zero-sum game. China and North Korea are in a non zero-sum game. But China and US? They are definitely in a zero-sum game.

Snowshoeing at Mount Seymour on a rainy day

Although it's still in January, it already felt like Spring in Vancouver. Steph wanted to go snowshoeing and now she's worried she might have to do it soon or else there would be no snow left! She heard on the radio that some of the snowshoe trails on Mount Seymour were closed due to heavy rain condition.

Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and End of this Universe

I've finished the book "Alpha and Omega: The Search for the Beginning and End of the Universe". I borrowed the book from Vancouver library and renewed it twice. I read it from the beginning to the end, from the first page to the last page, not one page skipped. It is a well-written book! It has upgraded my understanding of the modern cosmology to the 21st century!
